Harrison Roadhouse

A short walk from Brody Complex is the Harrison Roadhouse. Home of some delicious burgers and a wide selection of beer on tap. Every time I visit here, I cant help but clean my plate. It has a similar sports bar feel that Buffalo Wild Wings has but the atmosphere here is a little more comfortable and relaxed. Some easier listening 80's music was playing in the background and there wasn't anyone rowdy customers at the bar. On the average night, there may be several other groups of people there but I watched a Red Wings game here once and it was relatively empty. Around the restaurant, MSU football and basketball schedules are posterized, along with a bunch of really cool Michigan license plates. Several T.V.s hang around so you can watch more than one, usually sports program, at once.

The burgers here are the favorite, but the steaks are just as good. All sorts of toppings cover my picks and I will commonly ask for the ultimate cheeseburger with several types and flavors of cheese on top. Something about the french fries standout and accompany the juicy burgers just as well. The steak selection comes with some cheese covered potatoes with bacon. Anything with these two ingredients (bacon, and cheese) is going to taste amazing.

The prices are not that bad either, I was able to get a bill just under 30 dollars for ordering a steak and a burger. This may be pretty average but there are a lot of other places in the East Lansing area that would be over 40 dollars for these 2 selections. They like to accommodate college kids as well, with 3 and 4 dollar pints of light beer, and 6 and 7 dollar pints for darker brews. Cheaper beer and cheaper burgers are a college kids dream.

To me, this isn't just another sports bar, the theme fits perfectly in the MSU area. Sports banners hang from the ceiling of this more relaxed sports bar. Always a great place to go with always great food. The Harrison Roadhouse is always just a comfortable and solid pick for a place to eat.

Conrad's Grill

My personal favorite place to grab lunch at MSU! Conrad's grill and their ideal $5.00 lunch special allows college kids like myself to get enough food to be filling for a decent price. This is such an awesome place to just hang out too. I walked in recently to hear some Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon playing followed by some Bob Marley. This place provides some great tunes to listen too while you eat your wrap. I love some good classic rock and I look around the restaurant wishing I was born in a different generation as I see an awesome psychadelic looking Jimi Hendrix poster. I couldn't imagine seeing some of these performers live. A pleasant thought to have while eating lunch.
Get the number one! Number one no ranch please, and you get a delicious chicken, cheese, sour cream, and tater tots filled wrap. No wonder it's their most popular wrap. Any conversation about Conrad's will inevitably lead to talking about how good the number 1 is. It's so simple and filling, perfect for a college kids appetite and perfect for an intoxicated college kid's appetite. Their open until around 3 am usually and deliver this late as well. Everyone has had a late night study session fueled by Conrad's and they provide the perfect boost to get you through them. There's no going wrong with tater tots in a wrap...
Another great atmosphere with great music and cheaper priced food. Any college kid's dream and easily my number one place to eat on campus. A definite must go for anyone around MSU. Check out the awesome decor in the restaurant and enjoy a cheap wrap and try to say anything negative about the place. My only warning would be to try and avoid Conrad's after Saturday game days, the line will be out the door until close. But truthfully, any place around MSU will be busy so maybe it's worth the wait.

Buffalo Wild Wings

Buffalo Wild Wings - A paradise for sports lovers.

As you first walk by this restaurant you'll notice that the windows are blacked out and its difficult to see inside, this is simply to hide the party and all of the excitement going on behind the buffalo logo. A fitting motto to go with this theme is, "you have to be here".
I'm a huge sports fan and after going here several nights I can feel the same comfortable vibe while watching some hockey games. Going with some of my buddies we devour the delicious and biggest tray of wings they bring out and our waitress politely asks us if we would like to stay and watch the rest of the game: no rush at all. They have a variety of sauces that they've kept the same over the years because they're what people want. I never stray too far from the middle of the heat meter where after eating several wings I start to notice the spicy heat.
TV's are everywhere. Sometimes I wonder if there are more TV's covering the walls than actual walls covering the walls... Any and every sports game you can think of is being covered. There never seems to be a dull moment and I find myself looking back and forth from 2 or 3 games I find interesting. I catch the instant replays and all of the exciting moments of every game switching TV's and skipping over the dull ones.
The sports bar has drinks flowing and the crowd seems a little more rowdy towards that end of the room. College kids decked out in their favorite team's apparel keep reaching into their pockets for more money to buy drinks. It's interesting how all of the excitement can spark your own and before long I find myself cheering and really getting involved in the red wings game. Another goal and the places erupts led by two wings jersey wearers at the bar both screaming wildly.
Now all of these sports can't take away from the real reason we came here: the amazing wings. Hopefully I haven't lost the attention of the female audience but everyone can come here and enjoy some of the best chicken wings in East Lansing, along with some tasty french fries, or deep fried pickles (which I was a little skeptical with until I tried). This is all regardless of whether or not your a sports fan! I'd recommend this to anyone and the atmosphere can provide a momentary lapse of homework or stress from the week. Check it out for the wings, beer, and most importantly the sports.

What is this?

Welcome to my blog site with in depth reviews to accompany my interactive map that may help newcomers to the East Lansing/Michigan State campus area decide where to eat. People that may find this map and blog useful would be incoming freshmen and people unfamiliar to MSU. Those that are unaware of some of the local hotspots and popular places to eat in the area, I would encourage to check out the website links for locations and further information about the restaurants. Their food, atmosphere, and prices are the main focus of these reviews and are all written by a college kid that was in your shoes at some point. If you're looking for some help on where to decide to eat, you've come to the right place.

Feel free to leave comments or any thoughts you have regarding my reviews or your personal experiences at the restaurants.
